Two Iranian short films scoop awards at India’s 16IFF

Iranian short films ‘The Guy Came On Horseback’ and ‘Born in Mordad’ have brought home awards from the 16 International Film Festival (16IFF) in the Indian city of Jaipur.

The 2nd edition of the 16IFF awarded the two Iranian films during the event held at Golcha Cinema in Jaipur from May 17-21.

‘The Guy Came On Horseback’, by Iranian filmmaker Hossein Rabiei Dasrjerdi, won the Best Love and Romantic Short Film award, while ‘Born in Mordad’, by Farzad Rahmani, took home the Best Women and Children Short Film award from the festival.

Dasrjerdi’s 15-minute flick is about a rural man and his son. When the rural man became aware of the truth that his disabled son has fallen in love with their neighbor's daughter, he decides to work on it.

‘Born on Mordad’ depicts a poor and ill mother with a baby who is unable to cry. Longing to hear her baby’s cry and neglecting her own illness, she tries to provide money to find a cure for her baby, but her fate does not follow her wishes.

As many as 23 films from 12 countries in 13 languages were screened during the second edition of the event.

This film festival holds events in 16 subjects, including Democracy, politics, corruption, horror films, romantic films, women films, children films, animations, and ad films, among others.

The first edition of 16IFF granted awards to five Iranian films, including ‘The Return’, by Mohammed Amin Hamedani, ‘The Heritage’, by Abbas Khosrogerdi and Manizheh Seraj, ‘Shakhovan’, by Mahtab Sedaghat, ‘Confined Space’, by Siamak Ahmadi, and ‘Seven Stanza’ by Mojgan Nikravesh.
